INTRODUCTION

Idolatry is much more than the mere worshiping of wooden statues. It is an act of worshipping any person, object, or entity as God. Seeking from it answers, provision, and protection, which only the Most High can provide.

BATTLING IDOLATRY

My first taste of the occult and new age was sadly not the first nor the last time I battled with idolatry. Yes, you heard me. What I had committed was idolatry. The very act that the Israelites were led into captivity for.

KJV Dictionary describes idolatry as a) the worship of idols, images, or anything made by hands, or which is not God, or b) Excessive attachment or veneration for anything, or that which borders on adoration.

To further expand, it is seeking answers, provision, protection, comfort, perfect love, or identity in anything other than God as the primary source. Not that it is wrong to seek help or comfort, it is however wrong to see that person, organization, or thing as the source of your well-being. That title belongs to God alone.

But why do people even fall into idolatry? Because their souls are put out of peace. The predecessor to idolatry is a soul out of peace, and then a deep fear of death fuels idolatry to grow.

To put it simply, something occurs that makes our soul lose their peace and causes it to fear facing either physical or relational, financial, or any other type of death. It has been an ongoing battle for all humans ever since the initial sin committed.

It has been my very own ongoing battle. During the next weeks, I will pinpoint my very own struggles with idolatry and mention some of the different ways in which satan can wrap us into idolatry.

CONCLUSION

Idolatry, the ongoing battle of many, is the worshipping of idols, images, or anything made by the hands, that are not of God, and also the excessive attachment or veneration for anything other than God. We fall into idolatry when an occurrence takes our soul out of peace and causes it to fear either physical, relational, financial, emotional, or any other type of death.

Application

Write down any idols you may have worshipped in the past. Let the Lord identify if there are any you are still struggling with today.
