7 “I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near. A star will come out of Jacob; a scepter will rise out of Israel. He will crush the foreheads of Moab, the skulls of all the people of Sheth.

Numbers 27: 17 (NIV)

Stars in the sky

Balaam prophesied that a star would arise in Judah. A star that would crush the skulls of the enemies of Israel. Stars are bodies in the sky that are designed to bring light. And for years some have used them as guides. Even nowadays many times we still turn to the North Star to guide us to our destination if lost. Yeshua was that North Star. A star that defeated all the enemies of Israel. A star that shone so brightly, that guides people back home even nowadays. We too can be a north star.

When wedging through the desert, Israelites encountered many enemies. One of them happened to be Balak. Instead of seeing weary people in need of help, they saw a threat in need of destruction. They sent for Balaam, a prophet of sorts, to curse them so they would be defeated.

And though Balaam was willing, the Lord stayed His hand or rather mouth. Instead of curses blessings came forth. And among them a peculiar prophecy. Prophecy about a star that would be born in the distant future. And that prophecy spoke of no other than Yeshua.

Stars are bodies that were created by Yahweh to bring light to the world and to distinguish between day and night. Since the beginning of time, people have used them as guiding tools. Even nowadays we still look to the North Star when in need of direction. Yeshua was sent to bring light into the world and to be the light of the world. To be our North star.

There are shooting stars too. Shooting stars burn brightly, yet quickly die. North stars on the other hand burn consistently over a longer period. And Yeshua is the brightest of them all. Still to this day He shines the brightest and guides people down the right path home.

Yeshua is a north star, who has steadily been shining our paths before us for centuries, leading us home. Balaam prophesied about his arrival and right he turned out to be. He came to bring light to Israel and the Gentiles. He came to crush the skulls of the enemies. And He did. He accomplished His destiny. And now He will come to claim His bride.

Thank you Father for being my light. As the North Star keep steadily showing me the way home.
