BLOG SERIES: YESHUA IS MY LIGHT - 7. PUT ON THE LAMPSTAND

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Matthew 5:14-16 (ESV)

INTRODUCTION

Our walk with Yahweh is a deep and personal relationship. Many things He shares with us, and we share with Him, are not meant to be broadcast to the world. And yet we are meant to be the light of the world. As Yeshua mentioned in Matthew 5: 14-16, a lamp is never hidden under a basket; rather it is put on a stand, so it can give light to the world and guide them to the Source of that light. 

LET YOUR LIGHT BE SEEN FROM THE LAMPSTAND

In our walk with Yahweh, we are bound to hear many words and receive many instructions, enlightenments, dreams, and even visions. Not all of them are meant to be shared with the rest of the world. Some are personal words that build us and our character, which then leads to good fruit. But all that we learn through our tests, trials, and obedience in seeking Yahweh's presence, is to ultimately give light to the world. In Matthew 5: 14-16 it is said, “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

Our good fruit is meant to be seen either through giving, teaching others about Yahweh, or feeding the poor. Maybe through volunteering our time to help the elderly, or maybe through music, when we glorify Yahweh and others feel His presence. Through giving encouraging words, doing our jobs with excellence, or I dare say it through our perseverance in times of trouble. 

All that we do, may affect others. The more our walk with Yahweh deepens, the more people notice us. Have you felt eyes following your every step? People begin to notice there is something different about us. They begin to notice our light. And how separated from the rest of the world we are. And how things when all is said and done work out for us. And they start to crave that which we have. 

That is why it is so vital we are willing to go through the character-building stage. If we set the wrong standard we might lead many astray. But if we allow Yahweh to shape and mold us, then we begin to reflect Yeshua more and more. And guide others to follow His example as well. We start to be that light we were created to be. We begin to shine with His glory, all so He would be glorified. 

CONCLUSION

We were created to be the light of the world. To let all that Yahweh teaches us in the privacy of our closets and through trials and tests eventually produce good fruit that will lead people toward the Source of our light. Do not hide. Allow yourself to be put on the lampstand and let your good deeds be seen. Let them glorify Yahweh. Let your light shine. If asked be willing to share - share that Yeshua did this good thing. That way we will lead them towards Yahweh. And will show them the love He has for them too.

Application

During the week choose to do something nice and good for someone else. It could be tiny, like giving a good word, or a box of chocolates. Consult with the Lord as to what He wishes for you to give.
