In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1: 1 (KJV)

INTRODUCTION
There is power in the tongue; power to bring death or life. We need to learn to be in control of our tongue and speak words in alignment with the Word of God. The Hebrew word for word is davar. It can also mean “speech” or “things”, and of course, “The Word” of God.
CALLED OUT
There was Gideon, in Ophrah, hiding in the winepress. He was secretly threshing wheat out of the sight of the enemy. Not a very hero-like picture, right? Yet, one day God came, and he called him out with a particular combination of words - valiant warrior.
What I wouldn’t have been able to see in Gideon, God was. He saw not just the potential, but the future. He called him out from his fearful hiding into the position of a valiant warrior. Words have power, especially when spoken by our Creator. It was by his words that all we see came into being.
POWER OF DEATH AND LIFE
Confirmations. Proclamations. Decrees. Declarations. Speaking the promises of the Word of God. All these actions are based on the fact that aligning our mind with God’s perspective and view, and speaking His Word over us, brings life.
Proverbs 18: 21 says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” It is true. We need to renew our minds and curb our tongues to our will and the will of the Father.
THE HEBREW WORD DAVAR
The Hebrew word for word is davar דבר. It can also refer to “speech” and “things”, and derives from the verb davar, meaning to speak, arrange, or commune. (2) It is similar to the Greek term Logos in the New Testament.
YESHUA - THE WORD OF GOD
Yeshua is the Word of God. He is Davar Elohim. The personification of God’s active purpose in the world—the Living Torah. He did only that which He saw His Father do. His will was fully God’s will.
