HE CAME TO FULFILL - COMMISSIONING AND MINISTRY: SALVATION

Messiah’s name will mean salvation. He will be our strength and defense. Yeshua was born to Mary in Bethlehem as recorded in Matthew 1: 21 (NIV).

The name Yeshua means salvation. Befitting, isn't it? For He brought salvation to us all. In the Hebrew culture, names are usually full-on expressions. For instance, Elijah means “Yahweh is God”.
As we can see with the upper example, names are connected with a purpose. In the Hebrew culture, the parents sought counsel with the Lord as to the name they were to give to their yet unborn child, all based on the assignment in life they will have.
Elijah’s assignment was to proclaim Yahweh as God to an idolatrous Israelite society. It was no different in Yeshua’s name. His assignment was to bring salvation to all men who would believe. He heard that name so many times in His life, it became the very message in His Spirit. And He really was and is salvation to all men. He fulfilled the law and released us all from the power of death of Satan.
Yet despite His name clearly indicating He is the promised Messiah, some still choose not to believe. Deaf and blind they are. Not capable of hearing the truth, for they are not from the Messiah.
But rest assured, those who are in Him, He will not fail. He will bring us to the finish line. In the meantime, I ask you what your name may be. In it, a clue to your purpose may lie. If there seems to be no meaning, turn to Abba. Ask Him what He calls you. Perhaps, as with Abram, a change of name is in store for you. A change that will solidify you in your calling.
