HE CAME TO FULFILL - TRIAL AND CRUCIFIXION: DEATH SWALLOWED UP

The Messiah was to swallow up death. Death was to be defeated. When Yeshua died on the cross, He put death itself to death. It was finally defeated as furthermore confirmed in 1 Corinthians 15: 51-55 (NIV). 

By taking death upon Himself, Yeshua swallowed up the power of death and removed the sting. The sting of death is sin, while the power is the law. 

The fear of death kept people bound up in slavery. By taking the power of death away, Yeshua gave people the freedom to stop fearing death. The law has been fulfilled. Our salvation is not based on our own works, our own fulfillment of the law. It is based on believing in the finished work of the Messiah on the cross.
