Messiah was to give his back to those who would scourge Him. It was prophesied that He would not battle back.
How great the power of Yeshua was. He healed the sick, opened the eyes of the blind, healed the mute and the lame, released people from spiritual prisons, and still, when He was arrested, He chose not to battle back.
He did not object when falsely accused and sentenced as mentioned in Matthew 27: 26 (NIV).

Scourging was used as a deterrent to other people. It was intended to prevent others from doing evil, criminal things. Otherwise, they would end up the same. Yeshua was scourged too, despite being innocent. He was to be a reminder to all who wished to follow Him that His teachings are not welcome. If they continued to spread them, they would end up the same. It was a sign they would be prosecuted.
It did not deter any of the disciples, though. The boldness of the Holy Spirit empowered them to keep on proclaiming the gospel. They were not afraid of suffering or dying for Yeshua.
