Money paid for the betrayal of the Messiah was to be used to buy a potter’s field. For his dirty work, Judas was given money. Money that in the end he chose to return, rather throw into the temple after realization hit him as it is written in Matthew 27: 3-7 (NIV). With the money, they bought a potters' field.

The money given to Judah was considered as blood money. Money is given out as a prize for bringing a criminal to justice. Yeshua was considered a criminal, though He was without sin. It was all so that even that He could carry on His shoulders for our sake.
We were criminals, transgressors. And He was counted as one for our sake, so we would be forgiven. So we would not be counted among them. Instead, now we are redeemed Sons and Daughters of the Most High.
