INTRODUCTION
We have been praising God's amazing creativity, had a bit of a laugh, and now we will let love do the speaking. This week, we are taking a short look at another waka poetry style: the sedoka poem.
SEDOKA - THE LOVERS DIALOGUE
Love is in the air, or rather, in this case, on paper. Sedoka is an unrhymed poem, usually with a love or nature theme. It consists of two katauta poems with the 5-7-7 syllable structure. The first katauta usually presents a scene, and the second one shifts the perspective. Quite often, though, it is a collaboration between two lovers, where the first katauta tends to be a question from one lover, while the second one is usually the answer. A dialogue of love. (2, 3)
