ZERA - SEED, FRUIT, OFFSPRING

Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

Matthew 17: 20 (NIV)

INTRODUCTION

From a small seed, a big tree can be born. And all can come to reside underneath its shade or eat of its fruit. How can such a small thing provide for all? Seeds are a good representation of God’s masterful creative power and His goodness. One seed in particular - the seed of the woman, the seed of Isaac.

The Hebrew word for seed is zera, derived from the root zara. It doesn’t just speak of seeds, but also offspring, descendants, seed-time, fruitfulness, sowing-time, fruit, and plants.

From one great seed - Yeshua HaMashiach - came forth a multitude of great fruit; among them also you and me.

THE MUSTARD SEED

Yeshua liked to teach through parables. They were His preferred method of teaching. Quite a few of them were about seeds. It was the language the ancient Israelites understood best.

Perhaps the one that strikes the most impact for me is the parable of the sower. It speaks not only of the seed but of the soil too. What soil we sow the seed in can make the harvest be fruitful or a complete failure.

Have you received seed and failed to cultivate the soil to bring results? I believe I may have. But to uplift us all a bit, I will add that it only really takes a small mustard seed of faith, and the harvest will be bountiful. After all, it is not by power nor by might, but by the Spirit and faith.

ZERA - SEED

The Hebrew word for seed is zera. The word can also denote offspring, descendant, fruit, plant, seedtime, sowing-time, and fruitfulness in general. (2)

It derives from the Hebrew verb zara, which means to sow, scatter seed, conceive, to disseminate. (3)

THE SEED OF THE WOMAN

Throughout this week, I spoke a lot about Yeshua being the seed of the woman and the seed promised to Abraham and Isaac. Yes, He was the offspring promised also to David. The King who will rule for all eternity and will establish peace here on Earth.

He came forth from a virgin and was buried for the sins of all. But its death was not in vain. It produced a great harvest when He resurrected once more and now sits with the Father in Heaven.

All who are repentant and believe in Him are now redeemed unto God. What a great, bountiful harvest has been prepared for Him. The One who gave it all and to whom all belongs. We are His fruit for all to see and marvel.

CONCLUSION

It only takes a small mustard seed of faith to see results, although the soil does matter greatly, too. In Hebrew, the word for seed is zera, but it also denotes offspring, fruit, sowing-time, seedtime, fruitfulness, and descendants.

Yeshua happened to be the seed promised to Abraham and Isaac. He was the seed of the woman who would slay the dragon.

Application

Father, prepare the soil of my heart to be able to receive your Word, your Promise. Arise my faith to at least the level of a mustard seed, so I produce great fruit. Amen!
