“Hear, O Israel: [a]The Lord our God, the Lord is one! 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.
Deuteronomy 6:4-5

(1)
INTRODUCTION
There he was. A small shepherd boy looked down the lane at the giant named Goliath staring down at him. David, with his 5 stones and a slingshot, was preparing to go against a nemesis clothed in full armor. But what David may have lacked in stature or equipment, he more than made up for in heart. With child-like faith, he sprinted toward victory and his newly established fate.
David was a man after God’s heart. He was upfront and trusting. There was no hiding or beguiling. God is after our hearts, too. Today, let us look into the Hebrew word for heart - lev.
THE HEBREW WORD LEV
The Hebrew word for heart is lev. Though it is often translated as “heart,” it actually means “mind.” Throughout the Bible, the line between heart and mind is blurred. When Scripture calls for us to love the LORD with all our heart, it is, in reality, telling us to love Him with all our mind (Deuteronomy 6:4-5). Yeshua also said that it is from the heart that come forth evil thoughts (Matthew 15:19, Mark 7:21). It is clear that there is a connection between the heart and mind. (2)
FOR ALL SHALL BE REVEALED IN THE END
The Word of God is the very Spirit of Truth. Every single word it has spoken, and men have written under its influence, is the truth. When it said that all shall be revealed, it did not lie. And though it has been believed to be merely metaphorically accurate up to now, the fact that the scripture connects the heart with the mind has also been proven physically.
Scientific studies have revealed that the brain is connected to every organ and system in our body. A complex system of neurons runs throughout the body, so it all ties back to the mind.
But uniquely so, they managed to prove that the mind-heart connection is especially strong. Dr. Alkhouli at Mayo Clinic had the following to say, "The mind-heart connection is part of the broader mind-body relationship, but it’s uniquely powerful. Emotional states like anxiety, grief, or even joy can directly influence heart rhythms, blood pressure, and even the risk of heart attacks." (2, 3)
The mind of the man truly does exist within both the brain and the heart as two organs together. (2)
THE CENTER OF OUR BEING
At Voice of Judah Israel, they described Lev as, “the very center of who you are. It’s where your thoughts live, where emotions stir, where choices are made, where faith begins—and where Yeshua wants to dwell.” (4)
God wants our lev, far more than our money, careers, relationships, businesses, or anything else physically.
A KING AFTER GOD’S OWN HEART
David was picked as the next king of Israel. A small shepherd boy who, even in the eyes of his father and brothers, did not qualify for the grand destiny ahead of him. But there was something that God liked about Davvid. He was an honest and upfront man. He was after God’s own heart. God always preferred honesty. Even when Nataniel met Yeshua, Yeshua applauded him for his honesty.
God knows what is in our hearts. He wants every part of our soul, spirit, and body. He wishes that there would be no walls between Him and us. He wants us to be upfront like David was.
I WILL PUT MY SPIRIT
God is a promise-keeper. None of His words ever return void to Him. He promised He would put His very Spirit on the inside of His people and soften those hardened hearts of ours. The Spirit was to empower us to fulfill the statutes and walk according to the law. And that came to be once the Holy Spirit, our comforter, descended from Heaven and took residence inside God’s people.
The law is written on our very hearts. It is constantly on our minds. And let us be shown approved when we meditate on it day and night.
CONCLUSION
God knows what is in our hearts. He wants every part of our soul, spirit, and body. He wishes that there would be no walls between Him and us. He wishes to have our hearts, too. The Hebrew word for heart is lev. Lev is the very center of our beings. It is the place where our thoughts live, where emotions stir, where choices are made, where faith begins. They have managed to find neurons
