KISSEH - THRONE

To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat down with my Father on his throne.

Revelation 3: 21 (NIV)

KISSEH

(1)

INTRODUCTION

Yeshua was victorious and sat down with His Father on His throne. If we are victorious and overcome, we will sit with Him on His throne. The Hebrew word for throne is kisseh. It can also mean seat or chair. It is the primary Old Testament image for rulership, honor, and judicial authority. It can have a political, cultic, eschatological, or ethical emphasis.

YOU WILL SIT WITH ME ON MY THRONE

In the world, there are temptations, there are trials and tribulations. Yeshua said in John 15: 18-19, “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.”

There are thrones in heavenly places. Beside the throne of God, there are other thrones. Yeshua overcame this world. As a reward, He got to sit with His Heavenly Father upon His throne. With Him, we will also sit if we overcome. Let the deceptions of this world not confuse us. In the end, God will determine the rewards for our deeds.

WHAT IS A THRONE?

The word throne can carry different meanings. Merriam-Webster Dictionary says that a throne can represent:

  1. the chair of state of a sovereign or high dignitary (such as a bishop) or that of a deity

  2. royal power and dignity: sovereignty

  3. Thrones: an order of angels (2)

Biblically speaking, a throne is a symbol of authority, sovereignty, and divine rule. It is associated with kingship and governance and is a great reminder of God’s ultimate authority and rightful rule of His appointed leaders. (3)

KISSEH - CHAIR OR THRONE? HOW ABOUT BOTH?

The Hebrew word for throne, kisseh, also holds different meanings. It can also mean seat or chair and derives from the Hebrew word keseh, meaning full-moon. (4, 5)

In biblical literature, it primarily functions as the Old Testament image for rulership, honor, and judicial authority. It can represent a literal chair, the seat of a king, the Heavenly throne of God, or a figurative platform of governance. (4)

ALL AUTHORITY ON EARTH AND IN HEAVEN

In Genesis 49: 10 (KJV), the Word states, “The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until he to whom it belongs shall come and the obedience of the nations shall be his.”

For the Messiah the whole creation sighed for, all belongs. When He came and overcame death itself, He rose to power once more. All was given to Him.

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

Matthew 28:18 (NIV)

All the nations shall answer to Yeshua once He comes again. All of them shall kneel before Him, and His faithful who will rule and reign alongside Him.

CONCLUSION

The world may hate us as it hated Yeshua. We may be facing tribulations, trials, or persecutions, but if we overcome, we will sit with Yeshua upon His throne. The Hebrew word for throne is kisseh. It can also speak of a literal chair or seat. In the biblical context, though, it often points to rulership, honor, and judicial authority.

Application

Dear Heavenly Father, during this week, empower us to overcome whatever we may need to. Ask Yeshua was able to, let us overcome the world too.
