HE CAME TO FULFILL - COMMISSIONING AND MINISTRY: THE ROCK

Moses was instructed to strike the rock. He did, and water came out for the thirsty Israelites to drink. It was a prophetic image yet to be fulfilled by the Messiah. Yeshua was beaten down, then crucified, so that the likes of you and me would be forgiven. From His side, water mixed with blood spilled forth after He was pierced. He is our spiritual rock that quenches our thirst as mentioned in 1 Corinthians 10: 1-4 (NIV).

Through Yeshua’s blood, we are forgiven. And can once more enter into God’s presence. He now dwells within us. We abide in Him, and He abides in us.

Spiritual thirst is all about thirsting for God, desiring to be with Him. In her article Spiritual hunger and thirst, or starvation and dehydration Tracy Andrews compares all of us to wells.

The Bible compares us to a well in our inmost being. Wells fill up from where the source is to flow upward and outward. Wells overflow. In the same way, when we are filled with the Holy Spirit, life flows out from us. The more we live life seeking to be filled by the Holy Spirit, the more we will long for God and further revelation of God's character. This is known as a 'thirst'. (1)

While to 'thirst' in this sense is a good thing, a thirst going unsatisfied is not. It quickly becomes deprivation - deprivation that leads to dehydration. (1)

So thirsting for God is a good thing. It inspires us to go even deeper into our relationship with Abba. Even deeper into revelation and our understanding of scripture under His protection and guidance. And the more we come close to Him, the less the world and its temptations have in common with us. As a result, it has less effect on us.
