HE CAME TO FULFILL - NATIVITY: EXODUS

prophecy 33

To the Israelites, Egypt represented a dark period of their history. A period of bondage and slavery. From great favor under the rule of the first Pharaoh, they fell into disfavor because of fear and jealousy of the Pharaoh who succeeded him. Heavily, they were mistreated and abused to such a point that they lost their true identity, their true image. Yahweh heard their cries, saw the abuse they suffered, and prepared a way out.

Yeshua and His family ended up in Egypt as well. Forced to flee because of king Herod, they went to Egypt as instructed. There they remained until all who wanted Yeshua dead perished. Then in a similar manner as the Israelites Yeshua was called out of Egypt as can be read in Matthew 2: 13-15 (NIV).

FULILLMENT 33

As is mentioned by Seraphim Hamilton in his blog post A Biblical-Theological Exegesis of Numbers 24, the king is a personal representative of the whole nation. Messiah as Israel’s King summed up Israel’s story in Himself and brought it to completion in a new exodus. (1)

Something similar happened with Moses. Pharaoh tried to destroy Israel three times, and his third attempt produced Moses. Balak likewise tried to curse Israel three times. Yet at the third attempt, a prophecy of a king who would come out of Egypt victorious over all the enemies of Israel was produced.

Moses himself is described as having “become king in Jeshurun” by the giving of the law in Deuteronomy 32: 15. (2) Deuteronomy 30:1-14 describes the new exodus as a time when the hearts of the people will be circumcised so that they can do the Torah. (3)

Yeshua brought forth the new exodus. Grace was released upon us all through His finished work on the cross—grace to accomplish the law through His Spirit now dwelling with us. This grace helps us overcome all battles and succeed in fulfilling our destiny.
