HE CAME TO FULFILL - NATIVITY: SON OF GOD

PROPEHCY 37

2 Samuel 7:12-16 is part of what is regarded as God's covenant with King David, as relayed by Nathan the prophet. There are many disputes regarding it, also being about the Messiah. All agree that it certainly is about Solomon, David’s direct son, but many claim it can not also be about Yeshua. He did no wrong after all. Per La Vista Church of Christ, parts of the 2 Samuel 7 passage point to Solomon and Yeshua. Other parts clearly speak about Yeshua, and can not be about Solomon or any of the other kings that followed him. Then some parts do not point to Yeshua, but speak in general of Solomon and the following kings in the Davidic lineage. The lineage that came to its culmination in Yeshua, who will rule for all eternity. (1)

The whole passage does not have to point to the Messiah for a part of it to be about Him. Since Yeshua claimed to say, He was written about all throughout the torah, I am inclined to believe part of this passage does point to His death on the cross. Either way, no one can dispute that Yeshua was the Son of God.

The expression Son of God has a dual meaning in the Bible. In the Old Testament, it usually represented the Bene-Elohim. (2) It was prophesied that the Messiah would be the only one who would be praised and exalted as the Son of God, like no other Bene-Elohim was. And true to His word, Abba remained. On the day of His commissioning, Yeshua was praised and exalted.

FULFILLMENT 37

What applied to Yeshua now applies to us, too. We are received and accepted as we are, not based on our works or perfection. That is how we must come to Him, believing we are forgiven and accepted. Then God will begin the long journey of shaping our characters to match His as closely as He can. And He will not fail, for He promised He will lose none of His sheep.
